Your mission

Stepping into the role of a System Engineer - Public Cloud, your primary focus will be acting as the vital link between our development and operations teams. A major part of this position involves spearheading the deployment and ongoing maintenance of the foundational layers for our OpenStack components. Taking ownership of infrastructure automation at the bare metal level is an essential responsibility, alongside crafting scalable and secure architectural designs that ensure our IT landscape is fully prepared for the future. Managing vital internal core systems will fall under your purview. Throughout all these endeavors, ensuring exceptional reliability, peak operational efficiency, and strict adherence to regulatory compliance during daily operations remains an absolute priority.

Your tasks

  • Designing and deploying highly scalable and secure system architectures will be a core focus, alongside provisioning and maintaining the physical underlay that drives our OpenStack components
  • Building out robust automation frameworks for bare metal operations is another key aspect, encompassing everything from smooth release management to efficient CI/CD pipelines
  • Managing and continuously enhancing the performance of our complex infrastructure will keep things running smoothly, leveraging our observability stack with tools like Grafana and Prometheus
  • Taking full ownership of incident management means diving into root cause analysis, fine tuning system performance, and providing top tier support for our most critical internal systems
  • Steering smaller scale projects and acting as a trusted technical advisor to internal stakeholders will help successfully bring specific architectural visions to life
  • Safeguarding our overall system reliability relies heavily on proactive lifecycle management and seamlessly integrating essential IT security hardening practices, all in close collaboration with our dedicated security team

Requirements

  • Bringing a solid background in system engineering or the administration of complex IT infrastructures is essential, ideally paired with a formal education in IT or a comparable qualification
  • Deep expertise in managing Linux distributions, with a strong preference for Debian, is highly valued, along with a firm grasp of virtualization technologies and core network services like DNS
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python is necessary, alongside extensive applied experience with configuration management and Infrastructure as Code utilizing tools like Ansible and Consul
  • Practical familiarity with modern CI/CD workflows using GitLab, GitOps principles, and monitoring tools like Grafana and Prometheus is expected, while experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL serves as a fantastic bonus
  • Possessing a foundational understanding of IT security standards and compliance frameworks, including ISO 27001, BSI, and C5, will greatly contribute to our shared goals
  • Exceptional proficiency in English is required to ensure smooth and effective communication across our teams
